Counselling with Donna
“Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health; safe connections are fundamental to meaningful and satisfying lives” (Bessel Vander Kolk, The Body Keeps the Score). Donna uses a person-centered approach with an integrative lens which includes attachment theory, dialectical behavioral therapy and emotion focused therapy. This multidimensional approach recognises the deep connection between physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual well-being. Applied kinesiology is used to identify the underlying causes contributing to a dysregulated nervous system. Safety and connection are essential for mental well-being. Trauma often disrupts these bonds, leading to isolation and mistrust. Healing requires rebuilding safe, supportive relationships.
Donna will help you understand how past experiences affect your mind, body, and emotions, guiding healing in a safe, supportive way. Together, we will explore how
stress, societal pressures, and life experiences have shaped your subconscious patterns/behaviors. The application of emotion code, releasing method, emotion freedom technique, injury recall is used to help regulate the nervous system. Through awareness and verbal reframing, this process supports new patterns of response to stress and helps clients move forward in their healing. The overall focus is on unconditional love; as clients begin to establish a safe base within, healing occurs, relationship with self and others improves leading to a more purposeful life. Donna has used this on clients as young as 8 years old to adults in their 70’s
Physiotherapy with Donna
Donna’s experience ranges from acute care to rehabilitation. Donna has been using pilates equipment to re-establish inner core stability and postural alignment for over 20 years. Donna developed an interest in the influence of emotions on physical dysfunction and learned about how the physical body can “trap” the energy of emotions. Donna now uses an integrated approach (manual therapy, applied kinesiology, neuro kinetic therapy, neuro emotional therapy, Pilates-based rehab exercises, cranial sacral therapy, somatic-emotional releasing, emotion code, and psychoeducation) to restore function and foster pain relief for her clients.
Pilates – based rehab exercises focus on stabilizing the trunk, shoulders, and pelvis which includes the hip joints. Pilates rehab exercises help to improve one’s posture, align the spine, and activate the inner core system. The inner core system starts at your feet. Activation of the muscles in your feet help to support the arches in your feet. This is particularly helpful for anyone with fallen arches, or feet that pronate. Pilates rehab exercises are very helpful for pre and post natal women by facilitating stability and mobility in the low back, thus resolving low back pain during pregnancy. Pre- natal pilates helps with post natal recovery.
Neuro Kinetic Therapy uses muscle testing (applied kinesiology) of individual muscles to determine whether the muscle has become inhibited (the muscle no longer is doing its job) or an area of the body has been overworking, creating increased tension and pain. The result is muscle imbalances and abnormal movement patterns.
Neuro Emotional Therapy uses muscle testing (applied kinesiology) to determine if there is an emotional component to the muscle imbalances/ pain/ abnormal movement patterns.Cranial Sacral therapy uses light touch to balance the nervous system and facilitate unwinding of fascial tissue. Emotions are “trapped” in the fascia, once identified the energy of the emotionscan be released from the body using somatic emotional releasing and /or using emotion code.
Donna’s philosophy is that wellness can be achieved by bringing the physical, mental and emotional bodies into balance with each other.
