Overview

Understanding your pelvic pain

The pelvis links your spine, hips and pelvic floor, and those muscles do their job quietly until something changes. Pain here is often a mix of joint irritation, muscle tension and a nervous system that has become protective. Our first job is working out where the load is going wrong, instead of chasing the sore spot.

The multi-disciplinary difference

Parkway has physiotherapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, kinesiologists and acupuncturists in the same clinics. Your care can move between hands-on treatment, spinal care, soft tissue work and strength programming without starting over somewhere new.

Common underlying sources of pelvic pain

Pelvic girdle and SI joint pain

Pain at the back of the pelvis or over the pubic bone often follows pregnancy, a fall or uneven loading through the hips.

Pelvic floor tension

Overactive pelvic floor muscles can cause deep ache, pain with sitting, pain with intimacy and urgency that will not settle.

Post-surgical and postnatal change

Recovery after birth or abdominal surgery changes how the core and pelvic floor share load, and the pelvis feels it first.

Does this sound like you?

These are the warning signs we hear most often. If any of them match your week, an assessment will tell you what is driving it.

  • A deep ache in the pelvis, groin or tailbone that never fully settles
  • Pain over the pubic bone or at the back of the pelvis when you walk
  • Discomfort with sitting for long periods
  • Pain with intimacy or with using the bathroom
  • Leaking or urgency when you cough, run or lift
  • A feeling of heaviness or pressure low in the pelvis
Our disciplines

How we treat pelvic pain

We build one integrated care plan that restores your movement from several clinical directions at once.

Move and strengthen

Physiotherapy

Hands-on treatment, breathing and pelvic floor coordination work and graded strengthening to fix the mechanics behind the pain, not just the symptoms.

Release the tension

Massage Therapy

Registered massage therapy settles chronic guarding through the hips, low back and abdomen and improves circulation to the area.

Restore joint motion

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care helps restore normal movement through the pelvis, SI joints and low back and reduce the load on irritated joints.

Calm stubborn pain

IMS and Dry Needling

IMS and dry needling release deep trigger points in the hip and low back muscles and help break the tension patterns that keep the pain going.

Patient journey

What to expect during your care

We do not do cookie-cutter care. You move through a structured, predictable process built around your own goals.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Need more answers before deciding? Call the front desk any time and we will talk it through.

No. You can book directly with us. Some extended health plans ask for a referral before they reimburse, so it is worth a quick check of your policy first.

It starts as a conversation and a movement assessment. Any internal examination is optional, fully explained and only done with your consent, and plenty of treatment works without it.

It is common, but that does not make it something you have to live with. Most postnatal pelvic pain responds well to a structured plan.

Yes. Retraining the pelvic floor, whether it needs strengthening or relaxing, is one of the most effective treatments for bladder symptoms.

Most extended health plans cover physiotherapy, massage therapy, chiropractic and acupuncture. We direct bill most major insurers, and our front desk can confirm your coverage before the first visit.

Usually not. Imaging often shows normal age-related changes that do not match the source of pain. Your clinician screens for the specific signs that justify imaging and refers you when it is warranted.
