Getting you back to moving without shoulder pain

Shoulder pain should not decide how you sleep, lift or reach overhead. Whether it started with a fall, a heavy season of training, or a slow build at work, the team at Parkway Physiotherapy & Performance Centre works together to find what is actually driving it and build you a plan that holds.

Overview

Understanding your shoulder pain

The shoulder trades stability for range, so it depends on the rotator cuff, the shoulder blade and the upper back working together. When one part stops doing its share, the rest gets overloaded fast. Our first job is working out where the load is going wrong, instead of chasing the sore spot.

The multi-disciplinary difference

Parkway has physiotherapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, kinesiologists and acupuncturists in the same clinics. Your care can move between hands-on treatment, spinal care, soft tissue work and strength programming without starting over somewhere new.

Common underlying sources of shoulder pain

Rotator cuff problems

Tendon irritation or a tear in the cuff makes reaching, lifting and lying on that side painful, and it often shows up as weakness too.

Impingement and bursitis

A painful arc when you raise your arm usually means the tendons and bursa are being pinched as the shoulder blade moves poorly.

Frozen shoulder and joint stiffness

Adhesive capsulitis and arthritic change gradually take away range in every direction and make simple tasks like dressing hard.

Symptom check

Does this sound like you?

These are the warning signs we hear most often. If any of them match your week, an assessment will tell you what is driving it.

  • Pain when you reach overhead or behind your back
  • Trouble sleeping on the affected side
  • Weakness lifting or carrying with that arm
  • A painful catch partway through raising the arm
  • Stiffness that limits how far the shoulder will move at all
  • Aching that spreads down the outside of the upper arm
Our disciplines

How we treat shoulder pain

We build one integrated care plan that restores your movement from several clinical directions at once.

Move and strengthen

Physiotherapy

Hands-on treatment, shoulder blade control work and graded strengthening to fix the mechanics behind the pain, not just the symptoms.

Release the tension

Massage Therapy

Registered massage therapy settles chronic guarding through the shoulder, neck and upper back and improves circulation to the area.

Restore joint motion

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care helps restore normal movement through the upper back and shoulder complex and reduce the load on irritated tissue.

Calm stubborn pain

IMS and Dry Needling

IMS and dry needling release deep trigger points around the cuff and shoulder blade and help break the tension patterns that keep it sore.

Patient journey

What to expect during your care

We do not do cookie-cutter care. You move through a structured, predictable process built around your own goals.

Frequently asked questions

Need more answers before deciding? Call the front desk any time and we will talk it through.

No. You can book directly with us. Some extended health plans ask for a referral before they reimburse, so it is worth a quick check of your policy first.

It depends on the cause. Impingement and cuff irritation often improve within a few weeks, while frozen shoulder and post-surgical recovery run over several months with a structured plan.

Yes. Many partial tears do very well with progressive strengthening, and even where surgery is needed, building the shoulder up first improves the outcome.

Lying on the shoulder compresses irritated tendons and the bursa, and there is nothing else to distract you from the pain. Treatment that settles the tissue usually restores sleep first.

Most extended health plans cover physiotherapy, massage therapy, chiropractic and acupuncture. We direct bill most major insurers, and our front desk can confirm your coverage before the first visit.

Usually not. Imaging often shows normal age-related changes that do not match the source of pain. Your clinician screens for the specific signs that justify imaging and refers you when it is warranted.
