Overview

Understanding your neck pain

Your neck carries the weight of your head all day while staying mobile enough to look in every direction, so small changes in joint motion, muscle control or nerve sensitivity show up quickly. The same stiff, aching neck can come from very different causes. Our first job is working out where the load is going wrong, instead of chasing the sore spot.

The multi-disciplinary difference

Parkway has physiotherapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, kinesiologists and acupuncturists in the same clinics. Your care can move between hands-on treatment, spinal care, soft tissue work and strength programming without starting over somewhere new.

Common underlying sources of neck pain

Strains and whiplash

A sudden jolt, a car accident or an awkward night of sleep can overload the muscles and ligaments that stabilise the neck.

Disc and nerve irritation

A bulging disc or a narrowed nerve opening can irritate a nerve root, which is what sends pain, pins and needles or weakness into the arm.

Posture and joint load

Long hours at a screen, stiff upper back segments and irritated facet joints load the neck unevenly and keep it flaring.

Does this sound like you?

These are the warning signs we hear most often. If any of them match your week, an assessment will tell you what is driving it.

  • A constant ache at the base of the neck and across the shoulders
  • Pain, tingling or numbness that travels into the arm or hand
  • Stiffness that limits how far you can turn your head to shoulder check
  • Headaches that start at the base of the skull
  • Pain that spikes after a long day at a desk or on a phone
  • Flare-ups that keep coming back every few months
Our disciplines

How we treat neck pain

We build one integrated care plan that restores your movement from several clinical directions at once.

Move and strengthen

Physiotherapy

Hands-on joint and soft tissue work, posture retraining and graded exercise to fix the mechanics behind the pain, not just the symptoms.

Release the tension

Massage Therapy

Registered massage therapy settles chronic guarding through the neck, upper back and shoulders and improves circulation to the area.

Restore joint motion

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care helps restore normal movement through stiff neck and upper back segments and reduce the load on irritated joints.

Calm stubborn pain

IMS and Dry Needling

IMS and dry needling release deep trigger points and help break the chronic tension patterns that keep the neck locked up.

Patient journey

What to expect during your care

We do not do cookie-cutter care. You move through a structured, predictable process built around your own goals.

No. You can book directly with us. Some extended health plans ask for a referral before they reimburse, so it is worth a quick check of your policy first.

It depends on the cause and how long you have had it. Many people feel a meaningful difference within the first few visits, while longstanding or nerve-related pain usually needs a structured plan over several weeks.

Yes. Cervicogenic headaches respond well to treatment that restores neck joint movement, settles the muscles at the base of the skull and rebuilds deep neck strength.

In most cases yes, and it usually beats rest. The key is the right exercise at the right dose, which is exactly what your assessment sets up. Short rest during a severe flare is fine, but getting moving again matters.

Most extended health plans cover physiotherapy, massage therapy, chiropractic and acupuncture. We direct bill most major insurers, and our front desk can confirm your coverage before the first visit.

Usually not. Imaging often shows normal age-related changes that do not match the source of pain. Your clinician screens for the specific signs that justify imaging and refers you when it is warranted.
