4. Post-Concussion Syndrome

Parkways Complete Concussion Care

We push the limits of what’s possible for our patients.

4. Post-Concussion Syndrome

Post-Concussion Syndrome occurs when symptoms from a concussion last longer than 3 months. The risk of developing persistent symptoms is not a result of the severity of the initial injury and is often the result of the following pre-existing conditions:

  • Previous history of multiple concussions
  • History of migraine headaches
  • History of insomnia/difficulty sleeping
  • History of visual/vestibular abnormalities

Structural damage to the brain or disruption within the messaging system of the nerves caused by head trauma can also play a role in PCS

Our approach to PCS prevention and treatment is to:

  • Seek medical attention early
  • Learn how to get out of the rest period as quickly as possible
  • Understand the principles of pacing and planning your day
  • Work with practitioners who can create a safe return to work, sport and life plans
  • Exercise is your brain’s best friend
